Dear Commissioners, county staff, paid consultants and anyone else involved in the Lithia Pinecrest Study:

Please consider this letter a formal comment of opposition regarding the proposed widening of Segment D on Lithia Pinecrest from Fishhawk Blvd to CR 39. R-LAND members were assured during an earlier workshop on this project that this segment which is in the RURAL SERVICE AREA would not be widened and sadly that is not the story they got this year. I oppose this widening for the following reasons:

  1. Widening a road in a rural area will do nothing but promote unwanted sprawl.
  2. It will destroy the rural character of this community.
  3. It is not needed as this segment is not a failed road and I would like to keep it that way.
  4. This process has not been transparent which is a huge concern already with our county and their staff.
  5. This is not consistent with our Comprehensive Plan or our MPO's LRTP which should be governing these studies.
  6. Using the excuse of gaining Federal dollars is outrageous. Our county should not be misleading the Federal government to support projects. A better use of our tax dollars, not approving homes when we do not have the infrastructure, charging appropriate impact fees and following smart growth principles would have avoided this situation on the failed sections in the first place. Breeding more sprawl into the rural area is not the solution.
